Capoeira Batuque Sacramento’s is a Capoeira school, but we hope to offer you more than just a class. I believe every training session should be an experience. An experience that will help release stress, anger, anxiety, frustration, and fear. We hope to release the true version of oneself, and unlock all the gifts that the universe has provided you, but that might be hidden by all the subconsciousness, conditions of your life. That is why at CBS we also include elements of tai chi, yoga, and Qi gong. We believe these martial elements along with the movements, music, and trans like songs of capoeira, will allow your practice to be more than a class. It’s a new form of active meditation that will keep you moving, and growing with in the capoeira community. All class will challenge you physically, mentally, and emotionally because your number one goal in class is to stay present and be aware of your body, so you can witness your internal process as you work. 

Whether in school, sports, career or life Maurice Shaw has always pushed himself to be his best. Maurice Shaw was born in Sacramento and raised in a single parent home, but worked hard to become All-American in both academics & athletics.  After graduating from El Camino High School in Sacramento, Maurice Shaw earned a full ride scholarship for football to the University of Washington where his team won the Pac-10 and Rose Bowl championships.  Maurice Shaw was voted the Most Inspirational player by his peers and graduated University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Maurice Shaw’s football career ended but his drive to succeed did not; it led Maurice Shaw to UCLA where he auditioned against top actors all across the country to get into a program that only accepted 12 people. During Maurice Shaw’s second year at UCLA’s Graduate School theater program Maurice Shaw found Capoeira during a stage combat taught by Mestre Amen Santo.   Maurice Shaw graduated from UCLA in 2004 with his Master of Fine Arts in Theater.  After graduation, Maurice Shaw acted in some of the finest theaters in Los Angeles doing Shakespeare, wrote and directed plays, has been on TV and in Films, but was also continuing his capoeira training with Mestre Amen Santo at the Capoeira Batuque Headquarters in Los Angeles. After 15 years of training Capoeira Maurice has graduated to the level of professor and is recognized in the Capoeira community as Professor Feriado. Professor Feriado AKA Maurice Shaw has returned home after 20 years away to share what he has learned in Capoeira with the Sacramento Community at Capoeira Batuque Sacramento.
